From 21st April 2015, Google announced its decision to use responsiveness as criteria in ranking websites across the board, from the UK to the USA.

Google has for some time now, worked to ensure that larger companies don’t have an advantage over search criteria, to give smaller companies a fighting chance in a competitive digital world.

So, as of earlier this year if your website isn’t mobile-device friendly, (i.e. compatible with mobile devices such as mobile phones/ tablets etc.) it will not rank your site as highly as your mobile-friendly competitors.

Responsive web design essentially means that the width and layout of the website adapts to suit the device it’s being viewed on. The ‘mobile’ aspect is usually built in as one code base within your existing website as a future proof solution for when new technologies are announced on the market (the next Apple PC or such).

Recent statistics show that 50 – 60% of traffic now comes from mobile devices – so it’s never been more important to ensure both your existing and potential customers are catered for in your digital strategy.

If your website does not deliver a rich user experience across all devices, you are potentially losing visits and more crucially, money!
